MEET THE DESIGNERS
Susan Young and Tamara Stephenson are long-time friends hailing from the fashion and interior design industries, coming together to make quality, beautiful wares for the home. Channeling the artistry of women hundreds of years ago who canned fruits and vegetables from the farm in their root cellar, this duo utilizes Tamara's astute eye, sense of color and demand for quality with Susan's artistry and fine attention to detailing. The result is fresh innovative fabrics and designs. Committed to Made in the USA, the team collaborates with workrooms in the New York City garment district to support the local trade.
Susan is an entrepreneur, fashion designer, textile designer and trained specialty faux finish painter. Since debuting her fashion design label over five years ago at a well received fashion show on the rooftop of the Empire Hotel during New York City's Fashion Week, she created a few dress collections a year and produced fashion shows in New York City and Boston. She learned textile design by custom designing fabric for each season's collections, and her designs have been sold in boutique shops throughout the New York City and New England areas. She also worked for several years as a specialty faux finish painter then was commissioned to paint several interior surfaces of homes throughout Connecticut and NYC. Susan brings these myriad design and artistic skills to root cellar designs and the home market. Today, she also brings these skills to work with Tamara on interior design projects.
Tamara is a graduate of Parsons School of Design, a working interior designer and an award winning author of popular design & lifestyle blog, Nest by Tamara where she writes about interior design, travel & entertaining. Nest by Tamara has a dedicated following of almost 1.2 million readers who have come to rely on the design sources Tamara sleuths out and shares with her readers, whether it is uncovering the history behind a design aesthetic or the latest and greatest off-the-beaten-path find. Through the variety of events she writes about and hosts, Tamara is affectionately known as the Tabletop Queen in the industry bringing creative ideas, recipes and and entertaining tips to her clients and readers while demonstrating how to entertain with panache. She has honed her design eye for decades in the interior design business and her travels take her from Maison Objet in Paris to the Hamptons where she uncovers beautiful and quality design. She happily channels that vision and her expertise to design and manufacture the Root Cellar designs' collections for the home.
